Don’t Boot Up…Shoot Up?
Well I guess I was all f*@king wrong when I made the statement “And remember kids…Boot up, don’t shoot up”. I am reading an article from Health Blog that video games and the internet are becoming a real addiction? Well I sure as hell know that internet porn can be addictive (Exhibit A: My hairy palms).
Later this month, the American Medical Association’s policy-setting body will decide whether to recommend including “Internet/video game addiction” in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (a.k.a. DSM), the standard-setting catalog of mental illness.
A 10-page document prepared by the AMA’s Council on Science and Public Health (complete with three pages of footnotes) suggests that addiction may be present in those whose excessive time in front of the video screen leads to “social dysfunction/disruption”. What they are talking about are pasty face fat pimply geeks that spend all of their spare time in the World of Warcraft. Or the same type of deviant surfing the net for porn 24/7.
“The DSM-IV disorder (observed with overuse of video games) is most similar to the pattern of behaviors that are associated pathological gambling,” (also known as Floyd Mayweather disease).
The panel’s recommendations will be voted on the AMA’s House of Delegates, the group’s policy-setting body, at a meeting later this month. But even if it votes in favor of recognizing video game addiction, the final decision will be up to the American Psychiatric Association, which oversees the DSM.
Dude…don’t we have enough addictions already? I wonder what medication the pharmaceutical companies will come up with to cure this horrible threat to our youth. This could be almost as bad as the Restless Leg Syndrome(RLS) plague we have been experiencing lately!!!! I think it’s all a covert government conspiracy to poison the American youth. Think of it!…Video Game Mind Control (VGMC)!! Next thing you know Aliens will invade the UK and attack Manchester Cathedral (then we’re all f*#ked)!!!
Oh well…f*#k it!… we all have our vices. I’m gonna boot up the Xbox 360 and play some Gears of War in Insane Mode…for six hours!!!
