The Darkness…is the Sh*t!!
So I played 18 holes today and shot a 98…I know…I suck. Then I went straight to my local Game Stop to pick up my pre-sold copy of The Darkness. I almost got a freekin’ boner on the way home, I was so excited! I popped that bad boy into the old XboX 360, and booted up. I felt like I was preparing shot of heroine. The anticipation was maddening. Was this game all hype, or will it be all that it’s cracked up to be? I gotta say guys…this game is f*#king awesome. I’ve only spent about three hours on it (just scratching the surface), but I am ready for a full day of The Darkness (Starbreeze/2K Games).
Right off the bat I liked how the game put you right into a Top Cow comic book. I like when the game feels like it’s propelling you through a story, which this one does well. The game has a good training level, that shows you how to use your controls, and how to use your dark powers. This for me is important for FPS games, because who the f*#k wants to be bogged down by reading directions or learning the controls (Spider-Man 3 did this well).
Second of all the graphics are done well. It looks just like the comic books. I was pretty impressed with the vignettes during the story lines…they had a lot of detail. It’s like watching an animated film.
The gore factor rocks! Not only for just the hitman part of the story, which has some gruesome detail when you blow someones head off. When your possessed you have two snake heads coming out of your shoulders that love to slither around the shadows and bite the heads off unsuspecting victims. Oh…and did I mention that they like to eat the hearts of the evil victims. I think you even gain power by doing this.
You also have the enlisted help of darklings (these little demons), which act like attack dogs. They are summoned when a porthole from the underworld opens. Then they attack anyone you attack…it’s awesome.
Eventually, I guess you get more powerful as you kill more bad guys, and eat their hearts. I think you are able to open black holes which will suck all the bad guys in and take them to hell. I’m lookin’ forward to this….I am such a geeky douche for saying that.
So, what I am saying is I recommend this game. The story is cool, the artwork is cool, the action is cool, the gore factor is cool. This isn’t the end of this review. I’m going to play through the game more and give the full scoop…hopefully I’ll come out alive! Ha ha ha ha ha (evil laugh). You douche!
