Being a big fan of BioShock (K2), I had to check out this new underwater battle game Undertow (Chair Entertainment). A friend had emailed me the other day with a link to a page from Xbox.com which said that the demo was up for free download. So today I said…”What the f*#… I’ll give it a try, whada I gotta lose…ehhh!” So I downloaded it from the Xbox live marketplace, and gave it a shot.

First of all the graphics and artwork are excellent… very reminiscent of BioShock (but not as good). I noticed they used the Unreal graphics engine so it has that quality. The sound of the dialog was not that great… it sounded compressed (which I’m sure it is).
Basically the world (in the future) as we know it is now under water… I don’t know what happened, some kind of disaster or something! You’re some kind of scuba pirate that gets captured and forced to fight with this underwater army.
You have to fight with your army of frogmen (guys in scuba suits stupid…not real frog men!) and sort of play a capture the flag type game with the opposing army. There you are, equipped with a fully automatic spear gun with explosive spears, and a suit that has a turbo thrust ability. This is underwater war mutha f*#ka!
As you kill more dudes you gain more points and you get to upgrade units which give you this battle armor (cyber suit like things) different weapons or even ships. The bigger the gun doesn’t mean that you’ll kick ass, because the destroyer is a little ship that shoots torpedoes (that do a lot of damage), but it shoots slow and is less maneuverable. The Corsair unit seems to be the most bad ass one to me.
The free download gives you a good idea of the game play and the graphics, but it looks like there is a lot more (guns and ships). I’m not sure if I would buy this game for $60…but then again, it’s only 800 Microsoft points (around 9 bucks) so maybe if I have some spare bucks layin’ around and I’m bored I’d buy it. Undertow is available for download on Xbox Live marketplace Oh…I almost forgot. Tomorrow begins our next give away… So keep your boners in your pants and log back in tomorrow to get the details!
