So I read an article on ign.com about the release of the MLB 2K8 (2k games) demo on Xbox live marketplace so I decided to download it and review it! First of all you have to play with the Colorado Rockies and the Boston Red Sox. I am a Yankees fan (always have been since I was a kid) so playing with the Sox wasn’t my idea of fun. There was a definite learning curve (no pun intended) with this game. I went through the pitching tutorial and still had a hard time figuring out how to pitch. The first inning I pitched, the Rockies scored 21 runs on me. It took me several innings to figure out the pitching thing. The tutorial didn’t give me enough info to get my sh*t together.

As far as hitting there was no training mode at all. They just leave you in the lurch to read cryptic tips about hitting… so I whiffed a bunch and didn’t even get a hit until my second game (even with Big Poppie and Manny Ramirez in my line up).
Fielding once again you are left with some more cryptic hints that just confuse you. I basically got my ass kicked all over the diamond.
Bottom line is…the game play was confusing and I wish there was a training camp mode so you can work out the moves before you’re tossed onto the field of nightmares to get your ass handed to you. I didn’t even breach the base running thing… I couldn’t even get a chance to use them anyways. I have to hand it to most of the game designers out there now a days, because there’s usually an excellent training mode that will teach you how to play before you get started… but this game didn’t have it… or maybe the demo just doesn’t have it. I didn’t have much fun playing the demo, simply because the gameplay was too confusing (maybe I’m just a retard). I got some kind of handle on the pitching thing, but hitting was confusing and fielding was he same. I thought the graphics were good but who cares if the gameplay is confusing.
I’m not impressed with this demo, but you be the judge and log onto your Xbox live marketplace to see for yourself.
