Dead Space for Digital Download?

I have written about the idea of digital download of games before. I mentioned that GameStop’s days are numbered unless they figure out a way to deliver these games over the internet before someone else figures it out. Anyways I just read an article on gamespy about the game Dead Space (EA) being available for digital download (for PC only). I’ve checked out this game on gametrailers.com and it looked pretty cool, but I have Gears of War 2 (Epic Games) and Prince of Persia (Ubisoft) coming up for release… and I’m not made of money. So maybe someday I’ll get it used. Here’s what gamespy had to say
EA’s highly-anticipated entry into the survival-horror genre, is now available as a digital download on Direct2Drive.com.
Also available only on Direct2Drive is a special $5-off discount when you download the game with the anime Dead Space: Downfall in a single bundle.
Dead Space has been rated ‘M’ for Mature by the ESRB and ‘17+’ by PEGI. For more information about the game, please visit http://deadspace.ea.com.

I’m not a PC gamer, but this sounds pretty cool… saves you a trip to the store. I am looking forward to this being available on Xbox Live… INSTANT GRATIFICATION BABY!!!!!

I think once more and more people begin to have high speed internet then digital download of games would make sense. Otherwise who the hell wants to wait for 2 days while you are trying to download a game thats 6gb?

The article on gamespy.com said:
“Buy Dead Space on Direct2Drive and play in minutes.
Official Press Release”
Don’t know if it’s true, but I agree with you that band width (and compression maybe) will be the key to this type of service becoming the industry standard.

2 days for 6GB is a bit of an exaggeration don’t you think? :). It might take you a couple to a few hours. Launch your download before going to work or bed and when you return, you’re set.
